Early stage climate entrepreneurship in the UK

https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/early-stage-climate-entrepreneurship-uk-sanjoy-sanyal/ Early stage entrepreneurship, in all types of businesses, is very risky. However, if entrepreneurship and innovation have to succeed in turning the fortunes of the human species around, entrepreneurs have to have better chances of success. Two important actors in the early stage climate entrepreneurship ecosystem are trying to improve the odds of entrepreneurs in their own ways. Both are specialised players. Incubators across the world often incubate all types of businesses. Not Carbon 13 , the venture builder for the carbon emergency, whose job is to build businesses that take out “10 million tonnes of carbon dioxide from the world”, as Chris Coleridge, founder Carbon13 says in his podcast with me. Angel groups across the world are often male, retired and hobbyists. Not Green Angel Syndicate , a group of specialist angel investors who are younger, more

What are the best green energy stocks for 2022?

With the government further incentivizing companies to scale renewable energy sources with clean energy credits, this could be the ideal time to start investing money in this space. Here are the top seven green energy stocks that worth researching for investment right now. 1. Brookfield Renewable Partners L.P. (BEP) Brookfield Renewable generates electricity with hydroelectric, wind, solar and biomass sources. The company has a globally diversified portfolio of renewable power assets. Brookfield is taking on a leadership role globally when it comes to decarbonization. They’re also investing in emerging future technologies like green hydrogen. Increasing prices of fossil fuels and a greater focus on renewable energy sources have helped Brookfield grow in the past year. The stock closed at $34.51 on September 22 and has a one-year target of $41.88. 2. Tesla Inc. (TSLA) The electric vehicle manufacturer is at the forefront of the green energy movement. Tesla also has a pr

6 clean energy companies that are ramping up US manufacturing

The Inflation Reduction Act provides billions of dollars in tax credits and loans, helping to spur investment in domestic production.   he Inflation Reduction Act dedicates a historic $ 369 billion to support energy and climate initiatives, such as expanding domestic manufacturing capacity. This includes an estimated $ 30 billion in production tax credits aimed at accelerating U.S. manufacturing of batteries, solar panels, wind turbines and other clean energy technologies — along with tens of billions more in the form of investment tax credits and loans.  Since the legislation passed in August, a number of companies have announced major initiatives to expand renewable energy manufacturing in the U.S. But how much of that is directly attributable to the Inflation Reduction Act?  It’s hard to point to most of these announcements and say definitively that they hinged on the major legislation package, Harry Godfrey, managing director at trade group Advanced Energy Economy,

Inflation Reduction Act and renewable energy development: its advantages and limitations

The Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 ("IRA") was signed into law by President Joe Biden on Aug. 16. The IRA represents a significant investment by the federal government in renewable energy and related technologies and provides welcome relief to developers of and investors in renewable energy projects. Many of the renewable energy provisions in the IRA are similar to provisions that were originally proposed in the Build Back Better Act, which failed to gain legislative traction at the end of 2021, but there are significant differences.   Some of the highlights of the IRA include: •An extension through 2024 of the existing 30% investment tax credit ("ITC") for solar, qualified fuel cell, waste energy recovery, geothermal and other designated electricity generation facilities. Under prior law the 30% ITC for solar energy property was scheduled to phase down between 2020 and 2023. Certain solar projects placed in service before 2022, however, may qualify

11 countries leading the charge on renewable energy

https://www.climatecouncil.org.au/11-countries-leading-the-charge-on-renewable-energy/   The need for a swift transition to renewable energy is more urgent than ever. Climate change, driven by the burning coal, oil and gas, is already wreaking havoc on communities, economies and ecosystems right around the world. The easiest, quickest and most effective way of driving down greenhouse gas emissions and giving ourselves the best chance of kicking climate change’s butt is by moving to an energy system based on renewables and storage.  Here are some inspiring countries that are using clever combinations of renewable resources and efficient, targeted policies to drive down their emissions . Sweden In 2012 Sweden reached their target of 50% renewable energy 8 years ahead of schedule. This puts them right on track to reach their 2040 goal of 100% renewable electricity production. How did they do it? By taking advantage of their natural resources and using a combination

Boosting renewable energy use can happen quickly – and reduce harm to low-income people if done thoughtfully

The rise of renewable energy means utility companies must change business models

Missouri S&T – News and Events – The rise of renewable energy means utility companies must change business models (mst.edu) With the rise of individual households producing surplus power via solar panels and selling energy back to power companies, the profitability of electric companies could drop and lead to acquisitions and mergers. The electric industry has also seen changes in renewable energy integration and regulatory changes that could lead to shrinking profits and firm consolidations. A researcher at Missouri S&T is studying the hypothetical creation of energy oligopolies, a small group of companies with little competition, in the electricity industry and their chances of remaining profitable through the move to more renewable energy sources such as solar power. “Our study examines distributed energy resources, which are small-scale and local energy generation units connected to the grid at the distribution level,” says Dr. Mahelet Fikru, an associate professor of eco

Merkley: 'We have to electrify everything with renewable energy'

Merkley: 'We have to electrify everything with renewable energy' | KCBY EUGENE, Ore. —  Several senators sent a letter to the President, urging the administration to declare a climate emergency. Oregon Senator Jeff Merkley was one of the leaders trying to persuade the president to take this action, with the senators stating that a national emergency is not something to take lightly. We spoke with Senator Merkley about the letter and what the President would be able to do with the declaration. 0 seconds of 0 seconds Volume 90%   KVAL FOUND: Authorities locate 33-year-old Wilderville woman "What declaring a national emergency on climate would do, is to allow the president to move billions of dollars to tackle challenges we face,” Sen. Merkley said. “Energy efficiency, so that we use less fossil energy and building out renewable energy infrastructure. We have to electrify everything with renewable energy." The senator said that he would like to see the administration r

4 technologies that are accelerating the green hydrogen revolution

Green Hydrogen through Electrolysis: Fuelling the Future | WRI INDIA (wri-india.org) Anuraag Nallapaneni  and  Krishnaveni Malladi  -  August 25, 2021   This is the second in a series of blogs on hydrogen, which will involve discussions around range of electrolysis technologies currently available at commercial and laboratory levels. Given the rising global consensus towards the transition towards a green hydrogen economy in coming decades, availability of commercially operable electrolysis technologies will act as a backbone of hydrogen deployment across sectors. Maturity of electrolysis technologies would also be critical in facilitating India’s 450 GW RE target, given electrolysis’s ability to manage duck curve challenges through its power to gas (P2G) applicability, further banking on hydrogen’s ability to act as a long-term energy storage medium. Read the first blog  here . Splitting water molecules, or the process of electrolysis, is one of the most promising pathways towards gre

Factors to consider while selecting a hydrogen generator

Need some help choosing a hydrogen generator? (restek.com) As customers continue to switch to gas generators as their main source for hydrogen, we often get asked for assistance to help them make the right choice.  As a result, I decided to write this post to help our customers in their selection.   . In most cases, choosing the appropriate generator is as simple as answering two questions:   1.  What purity do you need?  In other words, are you going to use the hydrogen for GC carrier gas, fuel gas, or both? If you are  only  going to use the hydrogen for  fuel gas  (or for some other purpose where the purity is not critical), we suggest a  Parker Balston PEM  generator. If you are going to use the hydrogen for  carrier gas  (where high-purity is critical), we suggest a  Parker Balston H2PEMPD  generator.   2.  What flow rate  and  pressure is required?  After all, before you can select a generator, you need to have this information. For most GC set-ups, seldom is maximum output (deli
